Top student scientist in Shreveport
Maya Trutschl is named a top 300 Broadcom Masters for a project she created while in the 8th grade.
The Arc Caddo-Bossier's Goldman School and Child Development Center was built in 1962. They teach children with and without disabilities in the same classroom, becoming a model for centers throughout Louisiana. Loretta Lester has worked at Goldman School for more than half of its existence.
The Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport is offering a reward for information that leads to determining the cause of a fire that damaged the clubhouse in September. Investigators sent a chemical analysis of the debris to determine the cause of the fire. The Board of Directors authorized a $5,000 cash reward for information leading to determining what caused the fire. A separate cash reward is available for information that helps identify the person(s) involved in starting it.
Caddo Parish Public Schools announced a new partnership with the City of Shreveport. The Early Start Initiative is aimed at improving access to early childhood education by preparing pre-k students ahead of kindergarten. The initiative could allow another 600 students. The goal is to improve literacy by the third grade.
