UPDATE: A Shreveport homeowner has not been charged in a deadly shooting after returning to his residence and encountering multiple burglary suspects inside.

Just after 5:00 p.m. on October 7, 2018, Shreveport Police patrol officers were called to the 3000 block of Marquette Avenue relative to a burglary in progress.  Upon officer’s arrival at the scene, it was learned one male was deceased inside the residence and another male was being detained outside the home.  Both men were alleged suspects in the burglary at the victim’s home.

Based on preliminary information, authorities believe the homeowner returned to his residence and encountered two masked men inside the home.  It was during that time, the homeowner fired shots at the armed suspects, fatally wounding one of the intruders.  The second suspect fled from the home through a window; however, he was captured a short distance from the residence.  The deceased, a 40 year old Shreveport man, has not been identified; however, authorities have charged the second intruder, identified as 47 year old Martin Davenport, with Aggravated Burglary.  No charges have been filed against the homeowner in the matter.  Following interviews with detectives, Davenport, of the 1700 block of Clanton Street, was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail.  
 

ORIGINAL: Shreveport police are on the scene of a fatal shooting that happened during a home invasion in the 3000 block of Marquette Sunday afternoon.

Police tell NBC6/FOX33 reporter Zyneria Byrd that a homeowner came home just after 3 p.m. Sunday and found two burglars inside.

The homeowner fatally shot one of the intruders, while the other escaped through a window.

Shreveport police have the second suspect in custody and said no charges will be filed against the homeowner.

Neither the suspect in custody nor the deceased has been identified.
