MARION COUNTY, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — An East Texas judge took steps to protect residents from contracting COVID-19 by passing out free masks at the Marion County Courthouse in Jefferson Tuesday morning.

As a part of their county’s C.L.E.A.N initial, Judge Leward J. LaFleur distributed the masks.

He brought about 2,000 masks from local company, BaseEngager for just one dollar. The company’s CEO is a Navy corpsman veteran who has sought to help medical professionals, local governments and businesses with suppose that protect their employees.

“We live in a community, where a lot of people are vulnerable to the COVID-19,” said Judge LaFleur, “Most of the people that live in Marion County are of the older generation, and we want to make sure that they have the ability to get these since they’re so sought after right now.”

After crowds cleared in front of the courthouse, Judge LeFleur traveled around to different businesses to hand out the rest of the masks to owners and employees.
