SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A body recovered from a drain in front of the Chevyland parking lot on Youree Drive early Saturday morning has been identified as that of an elderly woman reported missing earlier this week.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s office positively identified 75-year-old Daisy Walker as the woman who was found inside the concrete drainage ditch.

Walker was last seen Thursday evening at her Towne Oaks South apartment in the 7800 block of Youree Drive when she was put to bed around 8:30 p.m. Police issued a Silver Alert, noting the family reported that she suffered from advanced dementia.

Carolyn Jones, Walker’s daughter, told KTAL/KMSS, her sister and brother-in-law who lived with her mother had gone to bed late, so they believe that sometime between 12:30 and 1 a.m. Friday, Walker got up, got dressed, made her bed walked away from the apartment.

Jones said it appeared that her mother knew to walk along the side of the road until she reached the Chevyland parking lot. There, according to Caddo Parish Coroner Todd Thoma, Chevyland surveillance video shows Walker walking across the parking lot, but stops at the end of the property, just before she reached the fire vault or drainage ditch.

Throughout the day Friday and into the night, SPD investigators, patrol officers, and members of the Shreveport Fire Department conducted a massive search that included drones, as well as family members, and volunteers who joined the search. The search was suspended around 1:00 a.m. and was set to continue Saturday morning until a jogger discovered the body around 8 a.m.

Family members were notified and were at the scene as the body was recovered.

Thoma said Walker’s shoes were found floating in the water and she was found fully dressed inside the concrete drainage ditch in three-and-a-half to four feet of water. He added that the preliminary investigation found no evidence of foul play and it is believed Walker fell into the ditch.
